Fearn, James - A signaller from Alyth.  Black Watch.

In the 1901 Census there is a Fearn family living at 25, High Street, Alyth.

Ann Fearn, head, 83, farmer's widow, b. Cortachy, Forfarshire

Charlotte Fearn, daughter, 37, laundress, b. Tannadice, Forfarshire

James F Barelay, grandson, 3, b. Alyth

On the CWGC site there is a J. Fearn listed.  He was 19 when he died on 24th April,1917, which makes him around the right age.  He is listed as being in the 1/6 Seaforth Highlanders, number S/41030, and the nephew of Mrs. A. Lamond, of Wester Kinwhirrie, Kirriemuir, Forfarshire.  I can find no Wester Kinwhirrie on the map (perhaps it doesn't exist now), but Easter Kinwhirrie is just over a mile south-west of Cortachy where Ann was born.
