"On Wednesday, Mr. Thomas Ferguson, "Princeland Farm", received official notification that his youngest son, Trooper Gordon Scott Ferguson, of "C" Squadron, 1st Scottish Horse, has fallen in action at the Dardanelle on 7th October. Trooper Ferguson, who was only 18 years of age, joined his squadron in 1913, and was chosen to act as one of the mounted guard of honour to their Majesties on their last visit to Perth. He was educated at Coupar Angus Public School and Perth Academy and was latterly engaged as an apprentice architect with Mr. Erskin Thomson, Perth. This early removal by death of a bright and promising young man has given rise to a deep feeling of regret in the district, where his father has done yeoman service in connection with recruiting, and also with the administration of the Soldiers' and Sailors' Relief Fund, etc.,"
