I came across information on John in the Tay Valley Family History magazine .
dated ......
His name was in a list of Scottish people buried in the General Protestant Cemetery, St. John's, Newfoundland.
The memorial is as below:-
ROY. In loving memory of 2nd Lieut. John Roy, aged 27 years, husband of Jeanette H. Ferguson also Sgert. Stewart Small aged 25 years Fst. Battn. Royal NFLD Regiment killed in France July 1st. 1916, sons of Daniel and Isa S. Ferguson late of Coupar Angus Scotland, 'Their Names Livith Forever More' . Also their son David Scott Ferguson died May 1st. 1938 aged 44 ' I know God has a place for me'. Also their mother Is a S. Ferguson died May 18th 1948 aged 88 years. Daniel Ferguson died Nov. 26th 1949 aged 88 years.
The Monumental Inscription seems to start with the name Roy, this is John's second name, and all other records I have found give him the last name of Ferguson.
I think the Ferguson family must have emigrated to Canada between 1891, when I have them living in Dundee, and 1901, when they are nowhere to be found in Scotland.
I Cannot find Stewart or John Roy on either the CWGC site, or in the online Canadian attestation papers.
