James was fostered by Annie at the age of two-and-a-half.
It seems he died instantaneously as a result of an accident while he was duty in the Middle East, where he had been stationed for two years.
He was apprenticed to Geekie, bricklayer, in Blairgowrie, and joined up a week into the war. For a short time he was stationed in Norway.
A keen swimmer and footballer, he played centre-half for Rattray Thistle.
