A quiet and industrious young man, John, was employed as a lorry driver at Erichtside Works, Blairgowrie, before he joined the Royal Artillery in 1941.  He was transferred to the Worcesters only six months before his death. 

He was a keen footballer.

His brother, Robert, was in the Transport Section of the Gordon Highlanders, serving in North-West Europe at the time of John's death.
