Peter Bowie McGregor, Gregor's father, was a native of Rattray, but was employed for some time as a commercial traveller in Glasgow (he lived at 8, Atholl Gardens, Hillhead). Gregor's aunt, with whom he spent most of his childhood, was Mrs Whitton of Struan, High Street, Blairgowrie. For some time he attended Blairgowrie High School, and latterly, Bruce's College, Dundee.
He joined the London metropolitan Police Force and, prior to joining the R.A.F., he had been with them for seven years.
A keen sportsman, Gregor was a keen member of Blairgowrie High's football team, and had won many trophies for tennis.
In his death notice in the Blairgowrie Advertiser of 22nd January, 1943, he was noted for his remarkable happy and likeable character, and his ability for making, and keeping, friends.
