Extra information :- James died of dysentry and typhoid fever in an unknown port in in East Africa. After he left Blairgowrie High School, James was employed by Mr. W. Smith, a butcher in Leslie Street, and also by Messers Balfour & Beattie in the town.
It was a family tradition to follow the sea. His elder brother, John, served as a submariner in the Royal Navy.
