"Ballinluig Soldier Killed"
Private George Robertson, 6th Black Watch, is unofficially reported to have died from the effects of a severe thigh wound received in action on the 2nd June. The news was conveyed by letter from a chaplain to his father, Mr. J. Robertson, farmer, Drummuir, Tullymet. The letter states that he was buried beside a church, where a cross with his name and regiment was erected. The warm-hearted French had the grave adorned with flowers as a tribute of honour.
He enlisted on 6th November, and was 21 years of age. He had the promise of becoming an expert athlete, as he was a capable putter of the stone and a hammer-thrower.
